Over 2 billion adults worldwide are affected by overweight and chronic diseases associated with it, such as obesity and diabetes. This public health issue is compounded by the failure of 80% of traditional interventions. Neuria, a spin-off from the University of Fribourg specializing in health technologies, offers an innovative approach to addressing this challenge with its patented brain recalibration platform.
The platform leverages over a decade of neuroscience research to target food cravings that drive overeating behaviors. Accessible through smartphone video games, it works on the brain’s implicit processes to sustainably alter behaviors without requiring conscious effort from users. This method combines scientific advances with a gamified design, promoting long-lasting behavioral change in the rapidly growing field of digital health.
Neuria aims to transform the weight-loss app market, valued at 1 billion Swiss francs, by providing sustainable solutions for individuals with overweight or obesity. With Europe and the United States as its primary markets, the startup already boasts a sales pipeline of 52 million francs, largely through partnerships with insurers and obesity specialists. Its B2B model is based on a subscription fee of CHF 60 per month.
Venture Kick funding will enable Neuria to finalize the commercial alpha version of its platform, strengthen its team for sales and marketing efforts, and establish a presence in the United States.
