Scientist in Preclinical Affairs and Clinical translation

• Based in Lausanne

• 1.5 years contract with EPFL, possibly renewable

Volumina Medical is a start-up, spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), active in the field of medical devices. The company develops breakthrough innovations for plastic and reconstructive surgery. The first product is an injectable biomaterial and targets the regeneration of soft parts of the human body which are damaged due to ageing, tumor excision, genetic malformation, or trauma. In the framework of a collaborative project together with the CIBM (Center for Biomedical Imaging) at EPFL, we are looking for a highly motivated candidate to join our biology team and contribute directly to the development of our products for tissue regeneration. The main responsibilities will be to provide preclinical and technical support in Research and Development (R&D) studies in close collaboration with EPFL facilities and to develop new animal models and new collaborations in order to achieve clinical translation of preclinical R&D projects.

The new team member will mainly work on the development of new indications for the biomaterials being developed by the Company, on the development of new animal models, as well as on the development on collaborative projects with scientists and clinicians.

Your key missions

• Plan, organize and participate to in vivo experiments to understand the in vivo biological process taking place in the device (including participation in animal experiments, sample collection and processing, collection and analysis of technical and scientific data)

• Manage interaction with EPFL facilities for sample processing and analysis

• Perform literature reviews on preclinical models and clinical studies for the identification of new product development opportunities and new therapeutic indications

• Develop new collaborations with scientist and clinicians in view of the launch of new R&D projects

• Write scientific and industrial grant applications in collaboration with the management

• Identify publication opportunities, participate to the writing of scientific papers and technical study reports

• Participate to the writing of clinical study reports and to the analysis of data

• Present results to the team on a regular basis and as required by the manager

 

Your formation and experience

• Master’s and PhD in Bioengineering, Biology or Biotechnology, Biomaterials, Tissue engineering or related field, 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, in an industrial R&D environment.

• Practical experience with biology laboratory techniques (microscope imaging, histology, (fluorescent) immunohistochemistry, ImageJ…)

• Experience with experimental design and management of projects involving several partners is wished for the position

• Laboratory Animal Science certification LTK1 or corresponding FELASA EU (ACD) and experience with animal experimentation (rodents) is a strong plus

• Experience in development and/or application of animal models is a strong plus

• Oral and written proficiency in English is a must
