Process

The application process for the Biopôle Start-up Fund comprises the following steps.

  1. Eligible companies may submit an application to the fund at any time (see ‘Application Documents’ below).
  2. At the end of each calendar quarter, the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) reviews the applications received and presents recommendations to the Biopôle SA Board of Directors.
  3. The Board of Directors makes a final decision on which companies will be granted funding.
  4. Candidates are informed of the outcome of their application.

Conditions

The beneficiary company agrees to communicate about the support given by Biopôle SA via all appropriate channels, including its website and in its company description. The beneficiary company must stay at the Biopôle campus for a period of at least 3 years following the decision to provide the funding. Except in cases of force majeure or bankruptcy, if the company terminates its stay at Biopôle before the end of this 3-year period, it must reimburse the amount corresponding to the unfulfilled stay period pro rata.

The beneficiary company must also pay back the funds provided if it raises private financing of CHF 10 million or more after the support is granted. Of course, any beneficiary company not meeting this criterion but wishing to pay back the support received may do so on a voluntary basis. Reimbursement must be made, by agreement with Biopôle SA, in one or several instalments over a period identical to that for which support was granted (that is, between 1 and 3 years). The reimbursed amount will be used to finance the Biopôle Start-up Fund so that other companies can benefit from it.
