10.10.2019 GEW Switzerland: Raising more Awareness for Entrepreneurship
GEW Switzerland: Raising more Awareness for Entrepreneurship Bern, 10 October 2019 – From 18 to 24 November numerous local events, workshops and networking occasions for prospective entrepreneurs will be held under Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) Switzerland. Initiated by Swissparks.ch, the campaign will host numerous entrepreneurship events nationwide. Key partner is the University of Lausanne with 30 events for 15’000 students (for the first time).
For one week every November the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) initiative inspires and encourages people all over the world on their way to self-employment. GEW was founded in 2007, by representatives coming from 37 countries. In 2018 it took place in already 170 countries, attracting more than 10 million visitors at 35’000 events.
80 Events with more than 3000 Participants all over Switzerland
GEW Switzerland was launched in Bern in 2011, and since then has been rapidly expanding not only in German, but also in French and Italian speaking Switzerland. In 2018 there were more than 3000 visitors attending over 80 events in 13 cities across 10 cantons (including 30 events in the Romandie alone).
This year’s edition, in turn, is organized by Swissparks.ch, in cooperation with its “Key Partner” University of Lausanne. UNIL plans to organize more than 30 events all over the campus for 15’000 students from 7 faculties.
Helping promoting innovation and growth
GEW aims at helping to launch and expand companies, create jobs and thus promote innovation and growth. “The new Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2018/2019 confirms again that Switzerland needs to raise more awareness for entrepreneurship. To draw the attention of the public to how important this and start-ups are for the economy and prosperity, is exactly what we have been actively pursuing with the Global Entrepreneurship Week since 2012,” explains René Hausammann, Chairman of Swissparks.ch, the association of Swiss technology parks and business incubators.
Hosting incubators, innovation and technology parks, impact hubs, universities
The over thirty Swiss GEW organizers include, but are not limited to incubators, innovation and technology parks, impact hubs, universities and founder centres. The variety of activities ranges from new founders’ breakfast to interactive workshops to innovation days. At the same time, the wouldbe entrepreneurs get access to a platform for exchange and networking with sponsors, intermediaries and investors.
