The composition of a multilateral board allows Biopôle to address all strategic issues and have a clear vision of its future.

Board of directors

The Board of Biopôle consists of six members. The majority share-holder has selected the Board members according to their professional activities. The synergy of their combined knowledge and experience will enable Biopôle SA to succeed in achieving its set objective.

Jean-Marc Tissot – Board Chairman (representing the Canton of Vaud)

Jean-Marc Tissot obtained his degree as an ESCEA/HES Business Economist in 2002. He furthered his education with a joint HES Integrated Management / Executive MBA degree. From 1991 to 1996 he was employed as Financial Controller and then as Financial Manager responsible for the offices of Cap Gemini in Switzerland and Austria. From 1996 to 2008 he then worked for the Swiss Institute of Experimental Cancer Research (ISREC), first as finance and personal Responsible, then as administrative Director and Secretary of the Board. In these functions, he handled the transfer of the Institute to the Life Sciences Faculty of the EPFL. In 2009 he was appointed Director of the new ISREC Foundation. Since the end of 2004, Jean-Marc Tissot is also a member of Biopôle’s Board of directors. He was later appointed President of Biopôle.

Jean-Paul Dépraz - Board Vice-chairman (representing the Canton of Vaud)

Graduating in Political Science from the UNIL in 1969, Jean-Paul Dépraz completed his studies in an SME, then worked at the EPFL from 1971 to 1988, initially in the project management team for the construction of the new School in Ecublens, and then as Director of the Welfare and Student Orientation & Counselling Services. He was the Secretary-General of the Vaud Medicine Society before joining the UNIL in Dorigny in 1991 as Administrative Director.

Stéphane Muller (representing the Canton of Vaud)

An architectural engineer and a real estate manager, Stéphane Muller was estates manager for the town of Pully until 1989. He then joined Crédit Suisse in Lausanne where he managed the real estate and general services until 1993. In 1994 he was Director of the real estate, infrastructures, and stewardship departments of the BCV bank. He then took over the management of Sogirom SA, a company in real estate and brokerage business, until the end of January 2007. He is now the technical Director of Biopôle SA. 
 

Giuseppe Pantaleo (representing the Canton of Vaud)

Professor Giuseppe Pantaleo was born in Bari, Italy, where he gained his degree in medicine in 1980. His interest in immunology led him to work at the Ludwig Institute in Lausanne from 1983 to 1987. In 1988, he was invited to work for the NIH (National Institutes of Health) in Bethesda until 1996, when he returned to Lausanne and became Head of the AIDS Immunopathology Laboratory at the CHUV. In 1999, Professor Pantaleo became doctor-in-chief of the Immunology and Allergy Department. Professor Giuseppe Pantaleo is the author and co-author of nearly 200 publications in scientific reviews.

Daniel Brélaz (representing the City of Lausanne)

Mr Daniel Brélaz was born on 4 January 1950. After studying science he obtained in January 1975 a degree in mathematics at the EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) specialising in research and application. Five years later he also obtained a degree in mathematics from the University of Lausanne. As an assistant at the EPFL from 1975 to 1980, Daniel Brélaz taught mathematics, physics and IT to pre-secondary school bridging classes at the school l’Elysée in Lausanne from 1980 to 1985. He was elected for the first time to the city hall of Lausanne on 25 November 2001, and on 1 January 2002 took over responsibility for General Administration and Finance. Re-elected Mayor of the City of Lausanne in 2006 and again more recently in 2011, he will exercise this function for the coming legislative term 2011-2016. Elected with flying colours as National Councillor on 21 October 2007, he re-entered the Federal Parliament in which he had already sat in 1979 at the age of 29. In his capacity as Mayor, Daniel Brélaz is heavily concerned with the problems of transport. Moreover, he is a member of the National Council’s Committee for Transport and Telecommunications (CTT).

Lionel Eperon (representing the Canton of Vaud)

Lionel Eperon holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Lausanne (1994) and a Masters in Public Administration from IDHEAP (prize for the best Masters in 1998). Thanks to an internship in the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1991 he developed his interest in politics, which has continuously determined his professional path since then. As editor at "l'Année politique suisse" (Swiss Political Year) from 1994 to 1998, he perfected his knowledge of Swiss public institutions and policies. After a brief spell in 1998-9 as scientific executive at IDHEAP focusing on communal policies, Mr Eperon joined the Vaud Cantonal Administration in 1999. As Secretary for Federal and Inter-cantonal Affairs between 1999 and 2001, then as Lobbyist for the Canton of Vaud with the Federal authorities from 2004 to 2007, he put his knowledge of the institutional and political workings to good use in coordinating and defending the interests of Vaud vis-à-vis the Confederation and the other cantons. Appointed on 1 July 2007 as Head of the Department of the Economy, Housing and Tourism (SELT) of the Canton of Vaud, Mr Eperon pursues enthusiastically his mission as interface between the private and public sectors.
