Switzerland devotes nearly 3% of its GNP to research, and according to the OECD it is among the three world leaders in the scientific field. A study carried out in 2008 by the Basel Institute of Economic Studies on behalf of the State Secretariat of the Economy (SECO) states that the growth rate of the Geneva Lake Region has recorded an average of 4% since 2004.
